Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
