Sam Fender has handed over the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which operates to save the UK's independent live music spots.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to help 38 local spots across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to give his honor winnings to good deeds.

Back when they received the prize in 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker declared that the group would contribute their winnings to the organization War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her prize between several organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

Previously, they donated their funds to the youth organization that supported their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The first in the city and The Croft in the city were bought under the public acquisition program, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "shares" in the venues.
